Wash and rinse, wash and rinse

Hi there. It’s been a while since I’ve posted here. Sorry about that but nothing new or different has really happened.

Life is pretty much work, eat, sleep, work, eat, sleep, wash and rinse, and repeat.

The best example of the periodicity of life is in my weight chart for this this year. You can see every weekend my weight rises as I cook and eat more. During the week because of a lack of time and motivation, the food I’m eating is more plain and less voluminous and my weight goes down.

What have I been watching?

Frasier

Amazon Prime has Frasier. I’m not sure I’ll watch every episode but I do enjoy the antics of Martin and Eddie. I’m not that fussed about Frasier and Niles, but their old man Martin is hilarious.

X-Files

Amazon Prime also has X-Files too. I remember watching this show when it aired. I didn’t get to watch every episode so I look forward to getting through every episode of every season. The X-Files was released as I was beginning my specialty training and well into the years when I was focussing more on career and family in Darwin. It’ll be good to really engross myself in this fantastic part of TV history.

Game of Thrones

For my birthday earlier in the year I bought the ‘box’ set of Game of Thrones episodes on iTunes. It’s taken a few months for me to start watching it. I remember the earlier seasons I didn’t have a legal means of watching every episode and relied on seeing the series via USB sticks from friends who had used a torrent service to download the episodes as they came out.

Masterchef Australia

Masterchef Australia finished on Monday evening and I was so happy to watch Emelia win the series. She was delightful to watch on this year’s series and a much deserved winner.

What have I been listening to?

I haven’t had a lot of time for podcast listening of the last few months. While I’m still subscribed to many, I just skip through many. I do like the technology ones, as well as the Star Trek and comedy podcasts which aren’t necessarily safe for work.

No Such Thing as a Fish

This remains a must listen to podcast. The hosts Anna, Andy, James, and Dan are just the best.

This week in virology

TWIV is produced by the American Society for Microbiology and has been very useful in terms of up to date virology advice relating to SARS-CoV-2 (the virus which causes COVID-19).

What have I been eating?

Probably the best way to gauge what had been whetting my appetite is to check out my food blogs, viz., Random Yummy and Yummy Lummy.

On these two sites you’ll find recipes and photographs of what I’ve been eating.

Final thoughts

  • How have you been coping with COVID-19?
  • Do you notice a periodicity associated with your weight every week?
  • What live streaming shows have you been enjoying during the pandemic?

  1. Hi Gaz!

My son has taken three (3) Covid 19 tests, which were all negative (thank goodness). He is still having trouble breathing, so I’m concerned, but the doctor prescribed some steroids (prednisone), which helped.

While I don’t know anyone who has contracted the virus, the numbers are so high here in Texas that I’ve been staying home as much as possible. I miss people! I see the same 20 people at work every week. We all wear masks, of course – it’s always a shock to see someone without one!

I sympathize on the weight graph. I tend to gain up to 2 lbs per weekend, too. I’m working on it! Peloton (my stationary bike) is my friend! 🙂

    Good luck with everything! XO

    1. Thanks, Jules. We’re now in a situation where our biggest threat comes from people who travel to Australia. We’re still seeing new cases in hotel quarantine. It’s hard to know what effect the various vaccines will have on this. Everyone is hopeful the vaccines will work, but there are no guarantees and we need to be so cautious.
I’ve been enjoying a 40-minute walk every morning as my exercise. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough room in my flat for a bike or a cross trainer.

  2. Your posts are always so much fun and informative, no matter what the topic! I’ve been busy and not watching anything but birds at the time of this post of yours. Covid hasn’t changed much of anything for me. Social media changes have annoyed the heck out of me!!

    1. Thanks, Kris. I hope you continue to be safe. I’m guessing it’s getting cold now with winter approaching.

    2. Not here in Eastern OR! Was in a tank top for a little while when digging in the garden. Changed to sweatshirt cuz the plants were prickly.

  3. Welcome back Gary. I have been watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Disney+ as I only watched it sporadically previously. We’ve also been enjoying episodes of The Repair Shop on iView before we go to sleep. Yes, life has certainly felt very repetitive lately. This weekend we’ve been invited out to an actual restaurant with actual real people and I have to admit I am so excited about eating out for a change!

  4. Great to see a post from you Gary.
I have been watching Broadchurch and The Bureau.
During COVID I have been missing physical contact with my family most.

    1. Likewise, Heather. Even though I normally see them every 6 to 8 weeks, not being allowed to travel to the homeland makes it so much worse.
