Weekend sport is coming back

I was on a teleconference the other day with colleagues from the United States of America, Canada, and the United Kingdom. One of the American participants on the call asked if ‘footy’ had returned after everything was suspended earlier in the year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I wasn’t sure which code of footy he meant so I explained the greatest game of all, i.e., rugby league will be back at the end of this month but I had no idea about rugby union because it had been so poorly administered and focussed on cable TV money that I’d lost interest. I said I think Aussie rules starts in June sometime but I have no idea because I don’t care.

I’m glad no one asked about soccer, because really, I’ve never watched soccer. I get more excited watching netball rather than soccer.

State of Origin

All I hope for this year in terms of footy is one State of Origin game to reflect that forty years ago there was only one origin game in 1980. I remember the few days of Origin in 1980 vividly. The Queensland team trained on one of the ovals of my high school. I was in grade ten and from the science block I could see my heroes, viz., Arty Beetson and Wally Lewis.

What have I watched this week?

Sopranos

I’ve started watching the Sopranos. I remember when this show was on TV and I really enjoyed it. It is hard to believe that James Gandolfini is dead.

Crimson Tide

I love submarine movies and I watch Crimson Tide a few times every year. Watching the Sopranos gave me a reason to see this movie again given James Gandolfini starred in this movie.

What have I listened to this week?

Nothing special, but the usual technology and comedy podcasts.

What have I eaten and photographed this week?

Yummy Lummy this week

Last night I posted a slow cooker Vegemite rolled rib roast meal.

Random Yummy

I worked from home on Friday and while I was participating in teleconferences I was able to cut some vegetables and enjoy a nice lunch.

Final thoughts

  • Are you looking forward to sport being broadcast on TV starting again?
  • Did you watch the Sopranos when it was on free to air TV?
  • How are you coping with the pandemic?

  1. I remember catching an episode of Sopranos on TV late one night. It was at some point in season 2 I think, but it hooked me in immediately. I’ve since watched it 3 times I think and have the DVDs, such a great show!
As for sports I’m not really into them so have been enjoying lots of sports free time on TV at the moment 🙂 The only sport I tended to watch was the Formula 1 but Channel 10 got rid of that to Foxtel a few years ago so I guess I miss the news updates on the Formula 1, haha!

    1. The Sopranos is really a great TV show.
I resent the way some sports are so beholden to money over fans that they are restricting the audience to rich people. I would enjoy watching more rugby union but the administrators have ruined the game for me by limiting access to Foxtel. The rugby league has limitations but at least with a Telstra SIM card I can watch games on my tablet.

  2. Had to laugh at your posts: Aussie rules is back next month but I don’t care 🙂 and get more excited watching netball than soccer 🙂

I don’t know too much about the two codes of rugby but Hubster does as he grew up in Queensland. I can’t tell the difference at all although he’s explained it me a hundred times. I’ve seen headlines regarding the mismanagement of um, whichever one, but haven’t bothered to read it. The only thought that went through my head is that the woman who cocked it all up (paraphrasing hubby here) reminds me of Dawn French in the Vicar of Dibley. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Linda, sorry for the delay. This comment went to the trash. I think I need to change the settings. I have to remember some words can be used legitimately and not in an inappropriate way 😂
Yes, the CEO of the rugby union made some interesting decisions, but the rot started before she took over.
Your husband must be a top bloke then given he’s a Queenslander 👍
