My genius start of the year move

My genius start of the year move

Before I started work this year, I made a genius start of the year move. I bought bigger trousers.

On Saturday morning I hopped out of bed and stood on the scales. I saw the number stabilise at 85.7 kilograms. That’s basically where I was in October 2017 when I decided I needed to lose weight.

In years gone by, after an indulgent Christmas New Year break, the first few weeks at work have always been uncomfortable because my trousers would feel very uncomfortably tight. I really like wearing loose fitted clothing, so anything tight just has me uncomfortable all day until I can get home and get into a pair of shorts. No, the waistband is not elasticised.

This year, I again had an indulgent Christmas New Year break, but I thought, stuff it, I’m buying bigger trousers. Even though I’ve been unwell with a productive cough, the joy of bigger trousers has been wonderful. I mean check out what I ate in Brisbane.

I’m sure there are nutritionists and behavioural scientists who might think I’m crazy, but I don’t care.

I think the morning’s mass measurement though may be a blip because on Friday I really indulged inappropriately.

Friday indulgence

On Friday morning I had a teleconference from 0030 to 0300. I had gone to bed beforehand but after the teleconference, I didn’t fall asleep until after 4.30 which is usually when I get out of bed. I got to work late so I ended up eating a Lamington for breakfast.

I find when I’m tired, I’m always feeling hungry. So for lunch I ate a chicken schnitzel, hot chips, and gravy. For dinner I had some belly pork strips. I diced them using my new Dick (brand) butchers knife (which I’ve fallen in love with). I had some stale sourdough bread which was pretty stiff and hard. I diced that too with a bread knife. In a large bowl I tossed the pork and bread with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I put the pork and bread on a baking tray and cooked it for 50 minutes at 250 °C/480 °F. I added some avocado which I flavoured with lime zest, parsley, spring onion, lime juice, and olive oil.

It’s no wonder my morning mass was 85.7 kilograms.

What have I watched this week?

Black Mirror

I’m still on mentor Kate’s advice and watching episodes of Black Mirror.

Star Trek: Discovery

In anticipation of season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery, I’m rewatching season 1 of DISCO. I’m still not sure about the DISCO Klingons. Two pairs of nostrils and two phalluses as a demonstration of anatomical redundancy is all well and good, but we don’t have to see it. All this big budget fancy costuming and makeup does is create inconsistency in the viewing experience. Sure, it’s not necessarily a breach of canon, but I’m happy with the Klingon narrative described in DS9 and ENT. The producers of DISCO could have kept things very simple.

What have I listened to this week?

CES 2019

Tech podcasts have been good this week with CES going on in Las Vegas. I really like learning about new tech products that are becoming available. I really have little desire to buy any of this stuff, but it’s good to know what’s out there.

Food gadgets

If I had the opportunity, I reckon I’d love to write for a tech blog and be the food/cooking writer. It would be fun testing new cooking/food tech and writing about it. I love the idea of those refrigerators with a big TV OLED screen on the door and cameras inside so without opening the door I can see what is inside. Can you imagine how much fun I’d have if I had a test kitchen to play with?

MEATER wireless meat thermometer

I’ve been having fun with sourdough bread and my MEATER wireless meat thermometer. Not that I’m making bread or using my MEATER in the bread. I’ve been using my MEATER in my pork chops.

Yummy Lummy this week

I think I may post something today (Sunday) about leftover Wagyu steak. A post will be up later tonight or tomorrow over at https://yummylummy.com/20190113

Coles Cheesy Vegemite Scroll with a slice of Coon cheese with slices of Australian Wagyu beef., and blue cheese.

  • Do you struggle after the CNY break with your weight?
  • Have you solved the weight problem with buying bigger trousers or bigger skirts?
  • Are you excited for the new season of Star Trek: Discovery?

  1. Gotta tell you Gaz, laughing again. I have eaten so much today here in Seminyak but looking at what you have eaten over xmas and having a lemington for breakfast is very funny (not in a judgemental way as today I ate two home made hash browns and vine tomatoes on sourdough for breakfast – too much food to then have pizza and chips for lunch. At least the pizza had no cheese (veganism!!)…and now going to eat some fabulous Thai food for dinner – yep big day for me too!! Fruit for the rest of the holiday for breakfast and NO more chips!!

    1. It always pleases me when I can help someone smile and laugh Sue. Yes, I ate very well over the Christmas New Year break. Buying bigger trousers has helped keep me happy this week 😃😃😃 I look forward to seeing how well you have been enjoying yourself in your post about Bali.

  2. It is indeed smart that you started the new year with new pants. Agree with you tight clothing is uncomfortable. I like wearing black skinny jeans/pants to work – it’s always tricky finding the pants that don’t suffocate my legs.

I could totally picture you on a food tech review TV show were you review all kinds of tech food gadgets. You’d probably get to travel the world for it too.

    1. I’d love to travel and write tech reviews for food gadgets. It would be a fun job.

I don’t think I’ll ever get into skinny jeans 😂😂😂

    2. It would be best to travel and review the gadgets – because unless you live in a big place, there are only so much gadgets you can accumulate before feeling cramped 😂

Finding the right fit of skinny jeans is very hard 😂😂
