All my children are adults and able to vote

I’m in Brisbane this weekend to belatedly celebrate the eighteenth birthday of my youngest child. All three children are now adults and able to vote.

Me on Sunday in Brisbane in a new shirt from Ms18 and Ms21.

I thought when this stage of my life came around I might feel old. Oddly enough, I feel excited that I have adult children who are all maturing into fine humans.

So, this weekend has been a couple of days of indulgence and spending time with the people I love the most, my children and my parents.

I arrived in Brisbane on Friday evening in time to watch some of the game between the Brisbane Broncos and the North Queensland Cowboys. One of my brothers lives in Cairns and he is a Cowboys supporter. He was sending text messages to Dad about the game. He had a disappointing night.

As much as I wanted to watch the game with Dad, I took Ms21 and Ms18 out for ice cream.

Salted caramel gelato

Saturday morning was breakfast with Ms18.

Poached eggs with Hollandaise on barbecue sauce pork belly with a potato rosti

Saturday lunch was fish and chips with Mum and Dad.

Saturday evening was dinner at a local Chinese restaurant. Ms21 made a choc mint chocolate mud cake for Ms18.

Sunday breakfast was with my parents, Ms23 and Ms18. Ms23 and her BF made us breakfast at a place they are renting.

Sunday breakfast bacon, sausages, egg, spinach, and a croissant

What a great weekend.

What have I watched this week?

Because I was away for the weekend I didn’t get to watch Star Trek: Discovery. During the week I watched a few episodes of LAW & ORDER.

I am looking forward to watching The Red Angel. It may be a Monday night treat.

Otherwise, my TV hasn’t been used much.

What have I listened to this week?

Just the usual technology and photography podcasts.

Two standout podcasts though are from the American Society for Microbiology and my friend Jennie Zell.

Meet the Microbiologist

This short series of tweets tells the story.

Belle and Dubs in the Morning

Belle and Dubs in the Morning is a passion project for Jennie and her blogging partner and wrestle pal Justin. You can find the show in the Apple Podcast Store as well as other podcatchers.

“Every day we bring you the good vibes with your favorite tunes plus local news and college information, right from the Los Santos Community College Campus.”

The voices used are voices of friends of Jennie and Justin. You never know, my voice may feature at some stage.

What have I eaten and photographed this week?

This is a gallery of photographs. Click on one image and scroll through the rest of them.

Yummy Lummy this week

I wrote about crispy pork crackling belly pork and crunchy quinoa rice.

Final thoughts

  • If you have adult children, do you feel old?
  • Do you get anxious when you miss seeing your favourite TV shows?
  • If you had a choice would you ask for caramel mud cake or a mint choc chocolate mud cake creation?
  • Do you like my new shirt?

  1. If there is one food I absolutely cannot stand its wood ear mushrooms – OMG – so slimy!!!! That birthday cake is absolutely gorgeous; what a talent your daughter has to be able to make that and how special for your 18yo. Lovely gift of the shirt by the way (and you look slim I must say) even after all that great food during the week.

    1. I normally don’t like slimy foods, but that fungus brings back so many fond memories of my grandmother’s cooking and my Mum’s cooking.
Funnily enough, when I weighed myself this morning, I was two kilograms heavier than what I was on Friday morning. I really did eat well this weekend. Perhaps I didn’t need to put my salmon into puff pastry last night with some cheese and a couple of mustards either 😂

  2. What a lovely week with family and good food.
I don’t get anxious if I miss my fave TV show, I just make a plan to watch it later on catch-up.
I would choose caramel mud cake. I like choc mint in very small doses.
The shirt is so awesome! I love a good Aloha shirt 🙂

    1. I’m hoping I can persaude Ms21 when she’s Ms22 to make a caramel mud cake for when I’m next in Brisbane 😃
      I love my new shirt.

  3. It looked like an amazing weekend of food. Hooray for dumplings and Ms21 came through with the cake – it looks lovely 😀 I like mint chocolate ice-cream and mint cake if the mint isn’t too overpowering, and same goes for the chocolate. Not an entirely huge fan of caramel.

That is one excellent shirt. You need to wear it more.

    1. Thanks, Mabel. The cake was a nice balance of chocolate and mint flavours. The mint wasn’t overpowering. The aero bar and mint slices also helped.
It was a good weekend. I managed to eat ice cream on Friday night and Saturday night too 😃

    2. It sounds like Ms21 is a good baker and cake maker. You could try eating ice-cream every single day 😃😃😃
