Ginger nut or Scotch finger?

Ginger nut or Scotch finger?

Given a choice what would you prefer? Ginger nut or Scotch finger? I’m talking about Arnott’s biscuits. Specifically, I’m taking about chocolate bars with Arnott’s Ginger nut and Arnott’s Scotch finger biscuit inside.

Okay, so maybe this should be a review on Yummy Lummy. The problem is, this has been a pretty uneventful week. Uneventful but busy. I spent a day at a management gathering, two days in Melbourne, and one day in Brisbane. It’s a privilege to be able to travel for work. While it’s enjoyable to meet new people and catch up with old colleagues and friends, I feel much better when I’m sleeping in my own bed with my CPAP mask fastened to my face.

So, to give me a reason to write something I thought I’d share my thoughts on the chocolate. The stronger flavour of the ginger nut biscuit comes through and is well suited to dark chocolate. The scotch finger and milk chocolate combination is more subtle but the scotch finger flavour is evident. Given a choice, I’d go for Ginger Nut and Dark Chocolate every time.

Mr Carpano Novotel Melbourne South Wharf

On Tuesday night I ate at Mr Carpano which is in the Novotel Melbourne South Wharf.

The entrée was pork belly with kalettes (hybrid of kale and Brussels sprouts). It was okay. One of the piece of meat though was pretty tough and dry. The rest of the meat was tender and moist. The kalettes were nice and crispy.

I had a 300 gram porterhouse steak for the main meal. The steak had a good taste but it was a little tough. I think I’m getting spoilt with cooking my beef sous vide. I need to remember that not every steak will be fantastic.

What have I watched this week?

Masterchef Australia

I’ve been enjoying the season so far, however, I’m yet to pick any favourite contestants. I enjoyed watching the master class on Thursday night.

If you want to watch episodes from the week, download the Channel 10 app and stream for your enjoyment.

Mr Black

Mr Black is a new comedy show starring Stephen Curry. There are three main characters. Mr Black, his daughter Angela, and Angela’s partner Fin. Mr Black is suffering from ankylosing spondylitis and is in need of low maintenance care. Mr Black’s disability requires him to use a walking stick and a motorised scooter. The first episode begins with Fin blowing his car horn after Mr Black atop his motorised scooter stops in the middle of the road. Mr Black proceeds to take his walking stick and damage the front of Fin’s car.

When Fin arrives home later, he is greeted by Angela and informed her Dad will be staying with them for a little while. Fin has never met Angela’s Dad. As soon as Fin meets Angela’s Dad he recognises him and the person who damaged his car.

The humour is dark. I laughed a lot. One scene was disturbing and involved Mr Black going swimming with an action camera attached to his head so he could film ladies doing aqua-aerobics from under water. On reflection though, it is a comedy sending up a disabled man and I can understand how some people would be offended.

What have I listened to this week?

No Such Thing as a Fish

The QI elves mentioned faecal microbiota transfer and how it can transfer some characteristics like obesity. Jame Harkin claimed that FMT should be in pill form and orally ingested. My experience is different. In 1992, I donated my own faeces and transplanted it into three patients rectally. It was a stunning success.

  1. I haven’t even seen these at the shops Gary. If I still ate chocolate I would definitely buy the scotch finger one; loved scotch fingers and of course milk chocolate.

    1. It feels like it’s my duty to eat them for you Sue. Both were nice but the ginger nut had the edge for me. My next move is the iced vovo.

  2. I haven’t tried the new chocolate blocks. But the one that I really want to try out of the lot is Iced Vovo. The Ginger Nut one is a dark chocolate block though 😀
