Fun times in Brisbane

Fun times in Brisbane

Fun times in Brisbane. I’m writing this while feeling deliciously warm and happy in Brisbane. May is a big month for birthdays in my immediate family and there’s also Mother’s Day to celebrate.

Oddly enough, the work week in Canberra was relatively warm compared with previous years at the same time of year. I’ve been hopping out of bed lately at 4 am and going for a walk for 40 minutes. This week, I haven’t needed to wear my fingerless gloves or my beanie for the whole walk.

I’ve seen the weather forecast for Canberra for next week and I think I’ll be adding more layers when I go walking in the mornings.

Fun Times in Brisbane with family and food

Fun times in Brisbane began when I hit the tarmac in my home town on QF1550. Friday night was a blessed relief. When the door opened on that Boeing 717 I was happy to be somewhere warmer and somewhere with a little more moisture in the air.

I had a good reason to be happy for fun times in Brisbane. I left work a little earlier and when I got the airport I was asked if I’d like board the earlier flight which was leaving in minutes. The Qantas official couldn’t guarantee a forward aisle seat or catering, but as it turns out I got 6C (Qantas configures the Boeing 717 with 2 seats on the port side and 3 seats on the starboard side) which was a forward port side aisle seat and the bloke next to me didn’t want a meal so I got a really nice smoked salmon and brown rice salad. The photograph is poor because the lighting was low, but trust me, this tasted really good. For a low price economy ticket, I felt like a winner.

Tempest Seafood Restaurant and Teppanyaki Grill

One Saturday we went to lunch at Tempest Seafood Restaurant and Teppanyaki Grill

I was pretty happy with my meal. It was better than my January experience.

Farm House Kedron

For Sunday breakfast Ms18 and Ms22 and I went to the Farm House Kedron. This place is relatively new.

Because Ms22 had to work we agreed to go to the Farm House, Kedron at 6.30 am. Sadly I feel like I’ve become acclimatised to Canberra weather because I wore a T-shirt and shorts while my daughters were rugged up in jeans, shirts, and jumpers. We sat outside and while I didn’t feel cold, it was fresh. Ms18 even placed a blanket (provided at the front) over her lap.

This place has a good looking menu which includes breakfast gnocchi, a changed every day hot cake, vegan fruity granola coconut panna cota, plus a yummy potato cake. There are also other menu items available including an option to construct your own meal.

¿Now please note people from the lower tiers of Australia (i.e., the non-rugby league states), this is a proper potato cake. It is not a potato scallop which in the lesser quality states of our great nation gets called a potato cake.¿

Obviously, being in Queensland at the moment, I feel rather bullish and superior, especially after the Brisbane Broncos, North Queensland Cowboys, and Gold Coast Titans won their fixtures this round.

The Farm House, Kedron potato cake has a cake-like texture and is delicious especially when sitting on bacon and topped with wilted greens, poached eggs, and Hollandaise sauce.

What have I watched this week?

Apart from the election coverage on Saturday evening, the only thing I’ve been watching has been Masterchef Australia. I’ve been too busy for much else on TV.

Master Chef Australia

It was legends week and I really enjoyed the evenings with Rick Stein and other culinary legends on the show.

What have I listened to this week?

Belle and Dubs in the Morning

This podcast is co-hosted by my friend Jennie. She and Justin put together a season of this show which revolves a morning radio program from a place called Los Santos. The radio station has an affiliation with the local university. The minimum temperature in Los Santos is always 69 °F. Bob is a regular caller on the talkback session and he gets a free pass to say almost anything he likes.

For this week’s show, there was a distinctly undead flavour. In my guise as Yummy Lummy, I got to appear on this week’s episode 🧠

If you like some quirky humour, I can highly recommend Belle and Dubs in the Morning. It’s not for everyone, but it is for special people.

I’ve not really listened to any other podcasts this week. While out walking, I’ve been listening to ABC News Radio more and keeping up to date on current affairs.

What have I eaten and photographed this week including Fun Times in Brisbane?

Yummy Lummy this week

Um, I’m really being slack this week. I haven’t done a special meal this week to blog about.

I did write a review though of my experience at the Tempest Seafood Restaurant. I took my parents, my daughters, and my eldest daughter’s partner out for a celebratory lunch on Saturday. Fun Times in Brisbane.

  1. Yes my hand cream is so greasy too but it works – the chemist at Priceline put it together for me – it’s literally called “Dry Skin Cream” in a jar – glycerol, olive oil emulsifier and water!

  2. Yes Winter has definitely hit Canberra this past week. I don’t mind it as long as I’m dressed with adequate cold-protection. I still seem to forget how cold it gets here each year, until it hits! This weekend has been beautiful and sunny though. Glad you had such a good/warm time in Brisbane! There’s nothing like catching up with the people you love over some great meals. I’ve lost track of what’s happening on Masterchef – will need to catch up on TenPlay. I like the sound of that legends week.

    1. As much as I dislike the cold and dryness, I love the colours and the beauty of the natural environment in Canberra.

    2. Me too, and when the sun is out, it’s stunning here, even if it’s cold! I’ve had to invest in extra-strength special hand cream living here.

    3. I have some super hydrating lotion from Avon. It’s great but a bit greasy.

  3. Wow that breakfast potato cake and hollandaise is amazing!! And love the look of the creamy mushrooms on sourdough…yum!

    1. Both breakfasts were amazing. The potato cake didn’t really need the bacon to make it taste good. The mushrooms were to die for.

  4. Eating really well in Brisbane, Gaz. Enjoy the warm and humid. Such a treat and looks like a great photo there of everyone at Tempest Seafood Restaurant. Winter can go away already. It will be a rainy one in Melbourne this week but we’re probably warmer than Canberra.

    1. Thanks, Mabel. I’m so happy to have spent time with the people I love most.
      Brisbane was lovely and warm.
I’m not looking forward to Canberra this week.
Stay warm Mabel. Rug up 😃😃😃

    2. You rug up, Gaz. Hope it won’t be too much of a shock to the system when you get back. Today in Melbourne, it is COLD 😐

    3. It didn’t get above 9 °C in Canberra today. Tomorrow morning looks cold with a forecast of 0 °C and rain. On Friday, the forecast is for –2 °C. Winter has come.
