Four 4 kilograms in twelve 12 months

Well, there’s not a lot to show for restarting a low carb lifestyle again.

I had a good start but then my love of a flat white coffee and hot chips got the better of me.

I’m toying with the idea of going hard again and getting below 80 kilograms. I’d love to get to 75 kilograms and stabilising at around 77 kilograms.

I’m hoping more salads, less meat, and smaller portions as summer approaches will help me.

I’m happy to take advice from readers. Please don’t tempt me to eat more chips and cheeseburgers.

What I’ve learnt

  • Missing an evening meal isn’t a bad thing. I rarely feel hungry.
  • I’m getting a bit tired of fried eggs every morning. I cook them without oil or butter in a nonstick fry pan.
  • A chicken thigh for lunch keeps me going.
  • I think I may eat too many nuts at work.
  • I’m having too many indulgence days
  • I probably need to stop buying my lunch on Fridays at the hospital

Have I been slack?

  • Yea, you can see in about March I started to slack off. It started to get cold and I started using the slow cooker. I was eating a lot more meat and starchy vegetables.
  • I’ve also been making less effort when I’m travelling or when I’ve been out with friends enjoying a dinner or lunch out.
  • I know I can do it, but I haven’t been demonstrating the commitment I need.
  • You can see in the photographs below some of my slackness.

Busy week travelling

Sydney

I had two trips to Sydney this week for work meetings.

Jervis Bay Territory

I had my first trip to the Jervis Bay Territory (JBT) this week. It’s a reasonable drive from Canberra and the best thing is it’s coastal so I got to see the sea and feel a sea breeze.

After the first meeting of the day, I asked a colleague about a good place to buy lunch and I was told to drive to Huskisson and check out the main drag.

On seeing the World Famous Fish and Chips, Huskisson, I figured this was the place to eat.

  1. Hi G. Well you have lost weight rather than gained so that is a positive. Since being in China last four weeks I have been eating my main meal at lunch time (great Chinese vegetables) and not having any dinner. I feel great for it and that coupled with around 12,000 steps + a day I have lost a fair bit of weight. Hope I can keep it up when you get home. Oh and I have been having a non dairy shake every morning. I brought packets of them over here with me. I feel great I must say. Before I became vegan I would eat lots of cheese and found that was my downfall. But it’s so delicious as you know.

    1. Mmm… cheese. I think I do eat too much.
If only I had a decent kitchen at work. I’d happily make lunch my main meal 😃

  2. It is a good effort with your weight loss, Gaz. You might have fallen off the bandwagon a bit but somehow you managed to stay on – and the graph shows the difference compared to last year. Maybe smoked salmon, sausages and cheese for breakfast 😃 I’ve never kept much eye on my weight, but have been experimenting with lesser-carb and lesser-dairy meals these days, and I do feel different, less bloated and for the better.

Never been to Jervis Bay but the fish and chips now give me a good reason to swing by 😃

Favourite footy food? Chips. Either hot chips or from the packet will do.

As you might know, it was AFL Grand Final week here in Melbourne, and it was a very good game between West Coast and Collingwood. The west won 😃 Also a good few games in the EPL 😃😃

    1. Thanks, Mabel. Who were you supporting in the AFL GF? I was happy to see the Eagles defeat the Magpies.
Jervis Bay and the surrounding towns like Hyams Beach and Huskisson are pretty picturesque. I really should go there on weekends for a swim in the sea. It would only be five or six hours drive in a day to get there and back.
I ate a packet of Lime and Black Pepper chips yesterday, but I didn’t watch the AFL GF.
I know what you mean about bloating. Since reducing the carbs and especially bread and milkshakes, I’ve not experienced much bloating. Of course, I’m now feeling it after two bread rolls for dinner.
I’m currently watching the NRL GF and my team is being killed by a team I cannot stand. Oh well, such is life. It is but a game.

    2. I was rooting for the Eagles. Magpies were leading pretty much for the whole game, but lovely to see the Eagles come through steady in the last couple of minutes 😃 I didn’t watch the AFL GF either, and instead watched the replay videos floating around social media.

Five or six hours drive doesn’t seem too far away. And if the weather will be nice there, why not.

Coles (Coles Brand) have something called Burger Sauce chips. Might be of interest to you 😃

This is my personal opinion, but I’ve never believe in cutting out carbs completely even eating low-carb. It’s a sure fast way to get energy which we all need. I love my bread and still eat two slices in the morning – no carbs for the rest of the day and I feel okay.

I had a look at the NRL GF score. I see what you mean 😃

    3. For the first five months, I was certainly feeling the lack of carbs in the mornings. I suppose the real answer for me is to substitute time I spend watching YouTube and Netflix and get out and walk more.
I’ll have to look for the burger sauce chips next week.
I think I’ll be going to bed without a smile tonight. At least Cooper Cronk can boast about two GF victories from two different teams, two years in a row.

    4. Being active can make such a difference. But watching YouTube and Netflix, in a way that is time spent educating yourself 😃

Good luck hunting for the burger sauce chips. Maybe that will put a smile on your face this week.

    5. Thanks, Mabel. As it gets warmer, the motivation to move more will be easier.
