I got back from a week in Québec City last Sunday afternoon. A remarkable thing, I haven’t experienced any significant jet lag. I’ve been sleeping okay and during the day I haven’t been feeling overly tired.
I was reading a medical news service, viz., The Medical Republic (TMR) and an article on early and late risers caught my eye. TMR had republished the content from The Conversation. The Conversation picked it up from Nature.
You can read all the versions here, here and here.
Okay, so the daily maximum temperatures were forecast to be >40 °C/104 °F every day this week. I’m sure if I was outside I’d be uncomfortably hot. I’m grateful I can work inside and I’m grateful for modern air conditioning. At home with the windows open, it was very warm and without a fan, sleeping would have been really very uncomfortable. That said, I did have my humidifier running. I don’t mind a little mould so long as I don’t feel dry.
The heat was a hot topic (pun intended) on the TV and radio news with lots of messages to stay hydrated and stay as cool as possible.
What should I write about? I don’t know. I have a bit of a block in my head. My focus has been very work oriented.
The week has been really good. Monday to Thursday consisted of all-day meetings, one of which I chaired. I really like chairing meetings and coordinating a good discussion.
One of the days was a long one though. I usually wake up and get out of bed at about 4.20 in the morning and I’m often thinking about getting into bed at about 8.30. Most nights I reckon I’m asleep before 10. One night this week though I was out for work until about 11 which meant I wasn’t in bed and asleep until midnight. I felt buggered the next day.
There was a lot of coffee consumed the following morning. It’s a good thing I like coffee. My problem is I like coffee made with pouring cream (I do this at home with Nespresso pods) or steamed milk (I like a flat white). It’s a pity I’m not happy with just a long black. The calorie count for a long black is a lot less compared with white coffees.
So last week I mentioned I was feeling like a human bag of snot. I had a head cold. Was it Man Flu? Probably not, it was basically a headache, sore throat, runny nose, and a barking cough. There was no fatigue, no fever, and no muscle or joint aches and pains. My cognitive abilities were also not inhibited. Continue reading “A quick recovery is a good recovery”
