What should I write about?

What should I write about? I don’t know. I have a bit of a block in my head. My focus has been very work oriented.

The week has been really good. Monday to Thursday consisted of all-day meetings, one of which I chaired. I really like chairing meetings and coordinating a good discussion.

One of the days was a long one though. I usually wake up and get out of bed at about 4.20 in the morning and I’m often thinking about getting into bed at about 8.30. Most nights I reckon I’m asleep before 10. One night this week though I was out for work until about 11 which meant I wasn’t in bed and asleep until midnight. I felt buggered the next day.

There was a lot of coffee consumed the following morning. It’s a good thing I like coffee. My problem is I like coffee made with pouring cream (I do this at home with Nespresso pods) or steamed milk (I like a flat white). It’s a pity I’m not happy with just a long black. The calorie count for a long black is a lot less compared with white coffees.

What have I watched this week?

Parks and recreation

I finished watching the entirety of Parks and Recreation on Stan.

I can’t remember when I started but each weekend over the last however many months, I’d watch a couple of episodes. If you haven’t watched it it’s about a small group of local government public servants who work in a parks service. Unlike Australian comedy based on local, state and Australian Government public service, Parks and Recreation has an American flavour. I’m not sure how to best describe the difference in comedy between Australia and the USA. Australian comedy tends to be a little more snarky, sarcastic, and dark; while USA comedy doesn’t seem to be as dark nor as sarcastic.

I think my favourite character was Ron Swan who was played by Nick Offerman. Ron is anti-government, anti-banks, and in some ways, anti-social. Ron is self-sufficient, he knows what he knows, and he knows he doesn’t need to have his head filled with needless information.

I didn’t realise until recently that Offerman is also a carpenter and woodworking expert. He’s also married to one of the recurring characters in the show.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (spoilers)

On my recent trip to Geneva, I watched Man of Steel for the first time. I remember as a kid enjoying the Superman cartoons but in my opinion, the movies weren’t that good. Likewise, I really liked the Batman cartoons, and again, in my opinion, the movies have been disappointing.

It’s not that the movies aren’t well produced, but I think the cartoons have much more creative freedom and while computer-generated imagery (CGI) can do amazing things, there are still limitations. I like the escapism of the cartoon genre.

That said, I’ll still watch the movies so after watching Man of Steel, I wanted to see the next movie in the series which is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Given Wonder Woman makes an appearance (towards the end), I assume the reference to Dawn of Justice is the beginning of the Justice League which again was a terrific cartoon. Seeing the Flash and Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice makes it pretty obvious.

Star Trek: Enterprise

I think I’ve completed the fourth or fifth rewatch of the prequel series of Star Trek. It was originally called Enterprise but was then named Star Trek: Enterprise. It’s my favourite series. It features my favourite Captain in Jonathan Archer (I love that Archer loves water polo). It features my favourite Star Fleet starship, viz., the NX-01. It has my second favourite doctor in Phlox (a Denobulin). My favourite character is T’Pol who is a Vulcan and she is Archer’s first officer.

I’m going to start rewatching Star Trek: The Next Generation next week.

Photographs from this week

There aren’t many photographs this week. I’ve been in work meetings most days so I didn’t shoot lunch photographs.

Meat pies

You’ll notice I had a couple of meat pies this week. I was being lazy and a meat pie is really convenient.

Herbert Adams

Of the frozen variety, I like the Herbert Adams range. You may have noticed that rather than putting the sauce on top of the pie, I sat the pie in the sauce. I did this because I like to add cheddar cheese to the top so it becomes crispy in the oven. I use a knife and fork when I eat a pie for lunch or dinner at home, so as I cut up the pie, almost every piece gets some sauce on it.

Yummy Lummy

Last night I posted a recipe for sous vide Old Bay steak with mashed potatoes.

  1. PS no idea why I cannot ‘like’ your posts – suffice to say I am reading them Gary but sorry about this – I have tried logging in and out – I see my comment is visible though.

    1. WordPress remains a mystery when it comes to the ‘Like’ button.
The fact you share a comment and kind words is what is important to me 😃😃😃

  2. I can’t believe you get up at 0430 every morning; such discipline. I used to love Herbert Adams vegetable pies; delicious.

    1. Thanks, Sue. It’s a habit I’ve had since my school days. The sun would shine in my bedroom and I’d get up to go swimming at 5 am.

I should give the vegetable pies a go.

  3. I am on the fence about meetings – depends what the agenda is. You sound like you make a good chair – fair and square 😃 Haven’t watched TV series of late but have been eating hot pies. I do like a cheesy pie but haven’t got around to having that one of late 😃😃

    1. Thanks, Mabel. Over a couple of decades, I’ve grown to really enjoy chairing a meeting, especially if I have a good amount of knowledge about the work involved.
I hope with Summer upon us I’ll watch less TV and exercise more.
