Continue reading “I’ve been violated”Today is World AIDS day. An annual mark on the calendar to consider the disease that made headlines in the 1980s and stimulated a huge amount of interest in medical research, social research, and health communications. Many Australians who were adults in the 1980s may remember the grim reaper TV ‘ads’, advertising a need for greater awareness about HIV and AIDS and how to prevent infection.
It’s been a busy week. Lots to do and not enough time. There have also been highs and lows in terms of atmospheric temperature in Canberra. It got >30 °C one day and on Thursday morning it was <5 °C. I’ve worn shorts and a T-shirt some nights and a jumper on others. Such is life in Canberra. Tuesday saw the running of a horse race which usually marks the beginning of tomato growing season in Canberra because it’s said there will be no more frosts after the first Tuesday in November.
Two things happened this week which had me reminiscing about high school. The first thing was my youngest daughter winning an academic prize which she received at her school’s speech night. She’s in her final year of high school, so this is a nice academic finale to her high school life. The second thing is that Australia announced it has now achieved rubella-free status.
What should I write about? I don’t know. I have a bit of a block in my head. My focus has been very work oriented.
The week has been really good. Monday to Thursday consisted of all-day meetings, one of which I chaired. I really like chairing meetings and coordinating a good discussion.
One of the days was a long one though. I usually wake up and get out of bed at about 4.20 in the morning and I’m often thinking about getting into bed at about 8.30. Most nights I reckon I’m asleep before 10. One night this week though I was out for work until about 11 which meant I wasn’t in bed and asleep until midnight. I felt buggered the next day.
There was a lot of coffee consumed the following morning. It’s a good thing I like coffee. My problem is I like coffee made with pouring cream (I do this at home with Nespresso pods) or steamed milk (I like a flat white). It’s a pity I’m not happy with just a long black. The calorie count for a long black is a lot less compared with white coffees.
It’s finally warm enough to wear thongs, shorts, and a T-shirt around. Hallelujah! Thongs for your feet to be clear and not for what you might be thinking.
Do you remember the TV show, “The Champions“? This was a TV series about three enhanced humans. In the opening title scenes of each episode, there was a short clip of the water jet fountain on Lake Geneva. The Champions were an international spy force who fought against evil.
Eight years ago I ventured into blogging. Up until about March 2010, I had no social media accounts. I started with Google Buzz and then went to Twitter.
From Twitter I saw these links to blogs and started wondering if I could write a blog.
Continue reading “Eights years blogging”Well, there’s not a lot to show for restarting a low carb lifestyle again.
I had a good start but then my love of a flat white coffee and hot chips got the better of me.
I’m toying with the idea of going hard again and getting below 80 kilograms. I’d love to get to 75 kilograms and stabilising at around 77 kilograms.
I’m hoping more salads, less meat, and smaller portions as summer approaches will help me.
I’m happy to take advice from readers. Please don’t tempt me to eat more chips and cheeseburgers.
